Biography
William Oakley was born on 27th April 1873 in Shrewsbury. He played for Corinthians after leaving Oxford and earned 16 England caps between 1895 and 1901, one of them, a 3-0 victory over Ireland on 9th March 1901, as captain (following on from G. O. Smith). He was also English long jump champion in 1894. He died on 20th September 1934.
